A crossover is a crossover, right? Well, not exactly. The full size crossover segment has its fair share of competitors. Two of the leaders in this segment are both made by General Motors, the GMC Acadia and the Chevrolet Traverse.
Let’s get real. These two vehicles share the same platform, transmission and engine. So what is the difference between the GMC Acadia and the Chevy Traverse?
1) Styling
The Acadia’s shape is defined by its athletic stance and upscale exterior lines. The Traverse has been described as being “value oriented” meaning that its exterior and interior was designed to appeal to the entry-level segment of large crossovers.
2) Amenities
The Acadia is better equipped then the Traverse as standard. SL package starts you off with 18-inch alloys, front and rear air, power accessories, and a six-speaker audio system with satellite radio. The SLE adds fog lights, power liftgate, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote start, bluetooth, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power seats, and rear parking sensors with back-up camera. SLT-1 buyers get bigger wheels, tri-zone climate, leather upholstery, 10-speaker Bose audio, and the SLT-2 adds even more stuff – bigger wheels, perforated leather, driver memory, and more available packages.
3) Handling
Opinions differ on this. Some reviews have claimed that the 2011 GMC Acadia takes bumps in the road more elegantly than the Traverse. Others have said the Traverse handles more like a car compared to the Acadia. You can answer this question for yourself by taking a test drive.
GMC applied its formidable engineering excellence to design and build an upscale crossover vehicle that appeals to the consumer who enjoys luxury without pretense. That is what the GMC Acadia is all about.
New for 2011 is the GMC Acadia Denali. The Denali package enjoys extra amentities such as the Denali chrome grill, heated and cooled seating, interior ambiant lighting, and 20″ chrome clad wheels, just to name a few. The Denali takes the prestige of GMC Acadia ownership to a new level, and one that just cannot be matched by the Chevy Traverse.

I think your posts are very misleading… The Acadia is very nice, but you are forgetting to mention that your Acadia also is $2530 more to start with. You are presenting the illusion that these standard features are included with the Acadia but not available with the Traverse. Smarten Up!!
Hi Lorn,
Thanks for your comment. Our intention is not to mislead but to inform. The SL Acadia does indeed have far more amenities then the LS Traverse. If you were to purchase the additional options for the Traverse (which you can certainly do) you would pay for those additional options in order to equalize the amenities available on the base Acadia.
